SEASONAL LABELS Although most holidays were pictured on cigar-box labels, Christmas and New Year’s were by far the most common and now have great appeal. Christmas labels were appropriately covered with santas and elves, and others showed women and children giving boxes of cigars as gifts. A New Year’s motif included scenes of drinking, dancing, merriment, and celebration. Carried as printer stock labels, they bore phrases such as “Merry Christmas,” “Season’s Greetings,” “Happy New Year,” and “Compliments of the Season.” Cigar boxes with Christmas theme inner labels and trim were sold to individuals for gifts or to merchants who displayed the open boxes on counters and gave away the cigars. http://www.astralinc.com/education.php Seasonal Label is not an easy find not this one especially not on a T206 or CLARO! Not as easy as they make it sound! The T206 Piedmont 350 O’HARA baseball card has an extra dot AFTER” NaT’L . ” shown in PICTURE#2 ) ,On O’Hara there is an extra red dot higher on his chest shoulder it is visible in (PICTURE#3.) Christmas colors? Quiete possibly! and Obviously! this was done on purpose. Due to The Fact it was a christmas speciality COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON O”HARA…. Plus if you look carefully it is faintly double printed. N.N.Y.Y but under magnification you will see it better look close at picture #2 maybe you will see what im seeing..If I could only explain better in person! Honestly I find this T206 O’HARA a miss grade! it is graded marked! but was marked purposley with a SEASONAL LABEL “STAMP” on O’HARA reads Compliments Of The Season and this listing should support me and the research evidence I have done supporting it is a christmas speicality, secondly underneath the foil in a “CLARO cigar box marked compliments of the season” was it possible too pull a T206 card from under the foil?, That is a better Question and im still researching that information, not verified yet! Or was the O’HARA card a christmas give away aswell! Possibly It was pulled from underneath the foil in a similar cigar box or this very box! or given to someone who sold Piedmont Products For a Merchants display! I thought maybe CLARO had a deal with PIEDMONT so in there christmas compliments of a season tobacco box they put t206 baseball cards? or is the box 1901 and the O’hara a 1909 christmas give away store display, or merchant owned piece like the box? CLARO CIGAR BOX SAYS COMPLIMENST OF THE SEASON ON THE COVER, OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A SEASONAL LABEL ON A CLARO BOX. CLARO BOX SAYS! “CLARO” IN A PURPLISH INK JUST ABOVE THE FACTORY NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CIGAR BOX, FACTORY NUMBER IS BURNT? INTO THE BOX bottom claro above that purple ink easier to see in day light. This is shown in picture # 5 CIGAR BOX HAS FACTORY No.510 District. OOL. 12, on bottom. “Stamp” on outer cigar box says 12 CIGAR STAMP on cigar box label actually states the year 1901 show in “Picture#6″ The Astralinc says seasonal and store merchant items are harder to find special giveaways, but compliments of the season is not an easy find I have never scene another, I have seen the slogan on christmas cards and other cigar labels, but never have I ever seen another dove tail box and or a T206 baseball stamp marked with this slogan! Usually the pin that helps the cigar box to close is missing and ripped out, and the hinges are messed up but all and all the cigar box is in reasonably good condtion for 1901, and O”HARA also over a hundred years old or the same age as cigar box is also in good condtion considering it’s age it is marked VERY GOOD 3 and SAYS MARKED but there is a significants behind it’s marking Because it is a T206 Christmas Piedmont card! Instead of MK the PSA should grade this a seasonal T206 which might effect its condition and should definetly increase value , but o’hara has other attributes that makes it an unusual card aswell too the T206 collectibles market, Extra dot variations and such are Known! Too, Open Cigar box squeeze front nicely until pin clears then lid then it flips open nicely! Hinges still will hold the lid open on it’s own!
